NOTE:
We believe most of the firewall and router problems have been solved in version 2.0. The information on this page is intended only for advanced users.

Some firewalls will ask permission before CQPhone and CQVideo can use the internet.
We recommend that routers not be specially configured for CQPhone unless you experience difficulties.
If several people are using CQPhone simultaneously behind the same Nat router, there might be a problem where the wrong computer rings on an incoming call. This problem cannot be fixed in the current version.

If you have a firewall problem, you will encounter some difficulties:

·Nobody can call you, but you can call out to other people.  
·Problems with one-way Voice and Video.  

CQPhone uses three Internet ports to communciate with the outside world.

·Port 24960 TCP is used to receive incoming CQPhone calls. With some firewalls you must give cqphone.exe permission to listen on this port as a TCP server.  
 
·Port 24961 UDP is used for voice.  
 
·Port 24962 TCP is used for video.  


Some Typical Firewalls:

Windows XP has a built-in firewall that can be turned on or off, or configured to open chosen ports.

Zone Alarm, Black Ice, Norton Antivirus are software firewall programs that can be configured to allow certain programs to use certain ports.

Internet sharing boxes ("Nat routers") like LinkSys, NetGear, Belkin have a built-in firewall. These firewalls can be configured by taking your browser to a web page built into the box. Follow the instructions for "Port Forwarding" that came with the device.

Some people are running several firewalls. For example Windows XP firewall plus an internet sharing box, plus Norton Antivirus. It is best to choose one firewall and turn the rest off. Someone reported that the firewall built into Norton Antivirus slows everything down because it tries to examine every packet passing through it. At my office, I use only the LinkSys firewall. At home, I use only the Windows XP firewall.
